Membership is important!

By becoming a member of Backus Community Center, you will be supporting:

  • Volunteerism: Volunteers live longer and are happier — our volunteers are the backbone of what we do.
  • Help those in need, Community Café: Twice weekly meals served to those with  food insecurity.
  • Help distribute food, Ruby’s Pantry: Food distribution program open to everyone, keeps good food out of the landfills.
  • Help children, Summer Food Service Program: Free meals served Monday through Friday to kids ages 1-18.
  • Help art flourish: Summer art week for kids and Prairie Fire Theatre help kids be creative.
  • Healthy living: Backus hosts free open gym for all ages, exercise class for adults and adult open volleyball — we also house a Yoga studio with regular classes.
  • Community theater: Home to Borealis Bards Community Theatre Troupe, fun for all ages!
  • Youth athletics: Home to Bronco junior high basketball program.
  • Share community history: Almost everyone has a story to tell about attending school in the Backus building!
  • Preserve historic buildings: Backus Community Center was built in 1937 and would have been torn down had it not been for the dedicated group who saved it. Now it is a vibrant community center serving everyone in some way.
  • Live entertainment: Bringing world-class performances of all kinds to our remote community. Our artists have performed on Broadway and beyond!
  • Community outreach: Dragon Boat Festival & Tug-of-War, Pennies for Play:   We’re more than just a building. We want to improve the community one event and project at a time.
  • Giving local businesses a place to call home:
Icebox Radio Theater Telling stories through the medium of sound
    KCC-TV Public, education, government television
Northland Art Society Sharing a love of art
Dancin’ with Darcie Children’s dance classes
